Oh well... I didn't
notice which list it came off. Anyhow, I am running my RP off a
generic 2-amp switcher and it seems to be happy. There are some
very beefy 5 volt regulated linear supplies out there, like the
Bel HB5-3/OVP-AG, but they cost about $65 new in the US. I
suspect the supply voltage in Fiji is probably 200-220 volts,
and 50 Hz.

Pete,
Your message was posted to RBN-OPS instead of Skimmertalk where I started the thread.
800 ma is not enough to power the RP. Needs 2-3A. I'm very familiar with the Jameco supplies but they don't have a linear one with the right connector. Need to get this to 3D2AG so maybe Raspberry Pi supplies are more available there. Maybe not.

Bob, Jameco has inexpensive linear supplies - like part no. 2231443, 800 ma 5 VDC, for $3.90

3D2AG's Red Pitaya is having problems, and since the issue seems to be correlated with varying RP fan speeds, I think his power supply or RP cable is having problems. The symptom is that SkimSrv starts OK, works for less than 30 seconds, then "Too many receivers" and network traffic drops to zero. We've tried various combinations of CAT6 Ethernet cabling via Ethernet Switch and via Router with no success. It used to work fine with no issues.
Has anyone tried using a Raspberry Pi power supply with the RP, or does it use some type of proprietary USB signalling to produce full output?
There are many options:
I wonder which one is RF quiet (the one provided with the RP is actually kinda noisy).
