I think if there was too much voltage on the input then it is more
likely that the A/D converter is the affected IC. The USB interface
is unlikely.
Also it could have been coincidental that there was a thunderstorm
and the pweor supply regulators died which is the usual case.
A simple DC voltmeter placed on each of the regulator outputs will
tell you if they are all good.
