[Charles D. Shinn]  I cannot say anythng about TenTec service yet- I have never had to use them for emergency service. My radio is however, in for the Option 3 upgrade. 
For one year I had an FTT-1000D sitting next to an Omni 6....
I used the FT-1K so infrequently that I sold it.I think that 
sez it all for the Omni!
