I can't say that I have noticed the heating problem. Maybe
because I run QRP so often with the radio it doesn't become
an issue. However, what I do have is the radio sitting on the
desktop with a couple of equipment shelves above it. On
the first shelf, behind the external speaker, wattmeter/swr
meter, etc., I have a cutout in the shelf of about 12" x 4" size.
I placed two fans over the slot and keep them in place with
small wood strips Elmer's glue'ed in place. The switches
are mounted on the far right under the shelf. I can turn one
or both on as needed. The fans were put in when I
operated a lot of QRO and had a TS-930S (on the desktop)
and Alpha 76A (on the second shelf)-see CQ Magazine,
October 1992 cover.

With headphones on-my usual operating technique-I
don't hear the fan(s), if and when I run them. Not only
do they strip away the heat from the heatsink, but they
also create a nice refreshing breeze for me.

And I didn't have to modify my Omni-VI

I had some questions about putting a fan in the Omni-6.
