[TenTec] argo/scout + ext vfo?

Since the Argo/Scout uses a PTO and determines the frq by using an internal
frq counter it would seem to be possible to build or otherwise provide an
external VFO to be used when the desire to be able to quickly change frq
within the band becomes importent. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
