It has been a couple of weeks .... but a belated thanks to all for the
20 + mike recommendations for the OMNI VI+. I can only conclude that the
Omni seems to work with most of the popular mikes on the market. The
microphones with the most enthusiastic followings were the D-104, Tentec
hand and desk mikes, and the Heil with the HC-5 element. The following
is a summary of the comments.

Astatic D-104:

pros:	Excellent crisp audio with pre-amp bypassed

cons:	It gets boring being complemented on your audio all the time.
If you drop it off the table it might take the radio with it.
It's non-directional which may be a problem with VOX
	(D-104 owners were very enthusatic)

Tentec mikes:

pros:	Exellent audio. Both hand held and desk (705) got very
high recommendations
cons:	One person with a bassy voice had unsatisfactory results.

Heil mikes:

pros: The rag-chewers' element got a lot of postive
recommendations. Good clear audio. Works well with footswitch.

cons:	The DX element is good for DX only.
The output was low requiring a high setting for mike gain but not
a problem.
Whether low output affected vox operation was not clear from
responses.

I decided on the Tentec 705.

It was an eye opener to see how much information could be gleaned from a
simple question, not to mention offers on used equipment. I think my
"lurking" days are over. Thanks again.
