[TenTec] RIT FOR OMNI V

Funny you should bring this up. I just completed a rather simple mod for
the Omni V that converts the "notch" control into an old fashion "bfo"
control. Being a cw man, I found the notch control rather useless
anyway. Others may not agree. The Tone or SqL could be used instead but
the notch control makes a lot more sense.

With this mod, the bfo frequency can be varied about 150hz above and
500hz below the 9.0mhz bfo oscillator. The knob is normally left in the
center position and varied to compensate for off frequency stations. I
realize that a few hundred hz isn't much for RIT but it does take care
of most situations.

A bonus to this mod is the ability to vary the IF pass band as well as
the bfo frequency thus moving the desired station away from qrm. This is
another reason to utilize the notch knob as the bfo control.

The mod works only in the cw and lsb modes since it only varies the
frequency of one of the two oscillators. Varying both oscillators would
require a much more complex circuit and I wasn't interested. This is
not a true RIT. A real RIT would probably require software changes,
another encoder and before long you would have an Omni VI!
I really like this better anyway and haven't had any need to use the
split mode since the mod.

If there is any interest, I'll be glad to publish the mod here. Only 3
components are needed and the work can be done in less than 2 hours.
