For those who have / used an OMNI V....
do you find the audio a bit hissy? (hi end rushing, white-noise feeling).

Despite many dialings of the passband, notch etc. I still find the audio
to always have a hiss, of a sort I never heard on the OMNI C, or the
Corsair II, and not on any of the tube stuff I have heard or used.
I use the Corsair and OMNI C as the best point of comparison re. audio
chain from same manufacturer since it probably is not really valid to
compare to Drake (SS or tube) (though the Drake sounded a LOT better) or
others.
Anyhow, if people tell me they think their OMNI V audio is about the same
etc. as any other TT etc. perhaps I will see if TT can swap me a board or
audio amp IC or whatnot, given what they know. This was checked out at TT
before I bought it re-sale, but I have always felt it was odd audio.

BTW, this is in SSB with the stock 2.4 bandwidth.
In CW with the 500 hz or 250 hz filter and the passband reduced I don't
hear nearly so much and it is tolerably fine with lo-fi headphones, but
SSB is not so much fun to listen to. If I run the SSB audio thru an audio
filter (DSP straight thru with no filter, just the audio chain to
headphone jack or analog filter like the Datong FL3 I put back in line
after someone wanted some info on one) the hissing
gets filtered out fairly well, but the 'stock' audio is truly bothersome.

I don't think I would be a big fan of using the 1.8 kc filter, I wonder if
the audio bandwidth would be squashed a bit more than I want.

Anyhow, your impressions welcome - and armed with that I can then
entertain a call to TT in Tennessee and see what they say.

Since 20 and 15 are picking up I am finding I am on there more on SSB
recently but not really enjoying the hissing (last night it just tensed me
right up and I just HAD to walk away).

tnx
