Acoustic deadening material might help the noisey Linear fan complaint too.

It is common Carl, for older speakers to have become off centered, or warped
in the paper cone. With speaker turned off, push gently and symmetrically,
near center of cone and listen for scraping sounds of the coil former onto the
sides of the magnet assembly. This is a sign of warped and off center cone.

The cure is to get a new speaker; an easy repair.

Another possible is that any rubber grommets used to isolate the speaker
mounting if used, have become hard and transmit vibration. Or if never in the
design, they could be added to mount the speaker with isolation and improved
acoustics.

The deadening materials are a good idea for any vibrating case parts, and
might help the noisey new model Ten Tec Linear fan.

Let us know which you find helps,
