Another thought extending the boxing in of the speake:  If you close the back
end, but allow an acoustic path to redirect the sound to front of speaker
housing, you could have the path length act as a tuned speaker effect or
improve the sound as in the Bose Wave Radio, which simply uses a folded horn
effect with clever sound passages molded into the case.  Tuned speakers are of
most use to CW operations.
