My son and i have first and second batch Model 555 Scouts from Ten Tec.
Over the past few months his has occasionally keyed itself unexpectedly
which has been stopped by cycling the rig off then on. Over time it has
become a more frequent occurrence. Last week I called Ten Tec service.
Gary Green thought it might be one of the transistors on the low level
driver board leaking. He mailed me all the transistors which might be
at fault. It took me longer to get the board out of the rig and back in
again than it did to change the seven transistors. I've had it on a
couple of hours this afternoon with no problem and will try for the
Spartan Sprint with it tonight.
The charge from Ten Tec for this service? "N/C" was marked on the
invoice. This radio must be about five years old! To have sent the rig
in for service would have cost at least $30.00 for time and shipping.
Thanks Ten Tec!
