Suggestion:  Borrow a DSP unit from a friend and try it out.  It won't
solve the problem of kicking your AGC, which makes copying weak stations
all the more difficult, but they can make major differences at the audio
end of things.  Some of the newer rigs with "IF" DSP where the DSP is
prior to or in the AGC loop have the best of both worlds.
