Jim,
I beg to differ. For pure excitation try this:

1. Dimly lit room.
2. Sunspot cycle on the definate upswing
3. Model 546 Omni C recently aligned top to bottom.
4. Bencher paddle just cleaned and ready to go

Does not get any better........well, maybe with an INRAD cw filter......
