If you have an SWR of 50 at the INPUT of the tuner and apply a KW, more
than that protection resistor will be fried. The remains of the resistor
may not be detectable in the ashes.

Go with a lower value but wire wound resistor to get DC static loading
but less RF loading, and tune the tuner with a noise bridge so you
always have a matching tuner input.
