For a new mid-range rig, some of the things I would like to have available
are:

1) No FM...Roofing filter 4.0 kc.
2) Relays for T/R switching and for filter selection in front-end
filters.
3) No AM...and seriously no SSB!
4) No internal antenna tuner.
5) Sine wave CW monitor whose audio signal is generated by the output RF
waveform.
        Adjustable in pitch and amplitude.
6) Max. power out = 100 watts, 160m thru 10m, including WARC bands.
7) Good passband tuning, i.e., Omni 6+ type.
8) No noise blanker.
9) Full QSK speed, 100 wpm, minimum.
10) External power supply.
11) RS-232 interface with characteristics similar to Omni 6+.
12) Max. If bandwidth = 1.2kc.
13) Filter selections 500Hz and 250 Hz. for each IF.
14) Oven timebase controlled crystal mixed oscillator.
15) Rx and Tx RIT offset, +/- 10Kc.
16) 50 memories, scratch pad memory (at least 3), dual VFO's (split mode).
17) No DSP. Audio bandwidth = 1.2Kc max.

Or basically, a Corsair 2, with FM, AM, SSB removed and a stable VFO.
