[TenTec] distorted audio in Omni VI+

My otherwise excellent Omni VI+ had a slight audio distortion from the
beginning. The distortion is getting worse when I switch in the 1.8KHz
filter and adjust the PBT tothe left side. 
Did anybody experienced a similiar behaviour? Any suggestions where to look
first?
