This was the way my 544 was acting when the PTO needed rebuilt.  Hope
this is not the case for yours.  The 544 was my first new post novice
rig.  Got it in the 70's, still have it today.  It was a rig that left
me content until I got to wanting WARC bands, and got an OMNI VI.
