[TenTec] SSB Monitoring with an Omni-6+

Hi Eric,

This question resurfaces about every 2 months or so on
the reflector. I did the mod about 5 months ago. It
kind of worked but wasn't great. If I recall
correctly, the thing that bugged me was it didn't gate
the mic audio with PTT, so that ambient sound coming
in from the mic was always being fed into the
headphones. Also, the monitor stopped working
suddenly on my rig and I wasn't interested in
troubleshooting it so I just pulled it out. As others
had suggested, I eventually became used to no monitor
when I talk, and my interest waned. When I use an
outboard DVK during contests, I do feel the need to
monitor that audio and so I "Y" it into my headphones
as well as the rear audio in jack of the Omni 6.

IMHO, the mod you described is not worth the effort.
I think it really needs a more sophisticated circuit
to really be effective. Perhaps someone is interested
in taking this on . . .

Happy holidays & 73,
Barry N1EU
