Oops, I left out mentioning a small RF choke of 2 to 10 mh from whip to ground
ahead of the series diode.
As Gerald says, a shunt diode will work also, and with one less part.
Basically, go to the Crystal Set Society web page, and pick any of those
simple receiver circuits and you will have a fine field strength meter. And
still less than $10!!!!!!
