Hello Duane,

I have a 238 and also the Autek WM-1 that I use with an Omni V. I used to
run a Henry 2K-4, but now I run a Herc II. The 238 had no problem with the
output of the Henry, which did legal limit, even though I seldom ever
operated at that level of output. That's why I got the Herc II. Although I
really, really like the Autek, the meter in the 238 is very functional and
works exactly as it was designed and I like to see what's going on at the
antenna tuner, so I look at them both. I think the Autek is more accurate,
especially since I calibrated it to a Bird, but it's all relative anyway.

The only feature I dislike is the analog scale and dial cord arrangement
used as a turns counter. Over the past three years, I've had to take the 238
apart two times because the dial cord jumped off one of the little
wheels/guides. The last time I took it apart and put it back together, I
decided I wasn't gonna crank on the roller inductor like a maniac and it's
been fine for the last 8 months.

As for the accuracy of repeating the setting for the roller inductor, I've
also used tuners with actual turns counter, and yes they're a bit more
accurate, but even with a tuner that utilizes an actual turns counter, you
can't depend on repeating settings exactly anyway, at least I wouldn't.
Would you pump you're Centurion at full tilt boogie into any antenna tuner/
antenna combo without first checking it at low power and touching up the
tuner settings? The settings are going to be a little different every time
you use a tuner, maybe due to humidity, rain, etc. I've found my roller
inductor on the 238 to be within 1/2 turn every time I tune between 40 and
75.

Mine works well. Plus it looks good.

73,

Jay/KM6VX
