They are more sensitive, and do not require the current of the 8 ohm or even
the 32 ohm Stereo hi fi phones so many hams try to use. What works best are
communcations phones which limit the bandwidth transmitted to the ear, cutting
down on audio noise level. Right, it is not necessary to match the impedance
when you are driving from a low impedance source even the 100 ohm resistor,
and the load is the 2000 ohm or higher military phones. Note, some military
surplus phones are 50,000 and some are 600 ohm. Again, the 600 might work,
but my best phones are the highest impedance and thus more sensitive military
ones from the 50's.
