I have, and use, two different D-104 microphones with my Model 540.  One has
had the pre-amp bypassed, amd the other still has the pre-amp.  I get
excellent, even glowing, audio reports with both mikes.  The one with no
pre-amp does give my voice a "higher" pitch, so there must be some
compensating with the pre-amp.
