[TenTec] RE: RF on mike input

I also had problems with RF on my mike. I went
through various tests, including running alligator-clipped
jumpers from the mike gooseneck to the radio chassis.
Every time I tried to transmit with the jumpers from
mike to chassis, the radio howled and went crazy.
(I monitored my output on another receiver in the shack,
and transmitted into a dummy load with low levels of RF
out, so no, I was not overloading the receiver and getting
feedback.)

I reworked my entire shack ground, and still came up
with nada. My power supply sits inside a grounded
steel equipment rack to the right of my operating desk
where the radio resides. (Yes, according to the Ten-Tec
guys, the power supply belongs on the right or you'll
-possibly- have problems with RF.) I noticed that
whenever I had problems, my audio seemed to come
from the power supply speaker as well. I went inside,
grounded the speaker frame (which was "floating"
beforehand) and added a .01uF cap from the "hot"
side of the speaker to ground. I also added another
.01uF cap from the accessory jack "hot" side to chassis
ground of the power supply. After reassembly, I have
had no reports of RF on my signal since. Could be a
repair that worked unique to my situation, but it fixed
my problem, so I'm not going to second-guess my
cure. Good luck!
