Yes, you can type in the frequency any time from the keyboard or the
remote
pad.  The function keys on the pad can be programmed to assign the
knob to runing of the vfo, pbt, rit, or xit.  It can be tuned even if
that
particular control is not selected via the front panel.  Manual explains
all
of this when you get it..
