[TenTec] Pegasus driver for usb port

Reggie, I recently got a new PIII 500 MHz computer that like most others
has very limited serial port capability: only one left after the internal
modem was set up.

In order to accommodate my shack needs, I added a USB/serial-port
expander/converter unit. It is made by Entrega - Model HUB-2U4S. It
connects to the USB port on the computer and provides 4 serial ports and
2 additional USB ports. Software allows the virtual ports to be named as
desired.

Street price is about $140 for the unit which comes with its own
wall-wart power unit. It came highly recommended from a computer
newsgroup guru as a painless way to expand serial port capacity and get
around the IRQ problem.

Entrega makes other expanders that provide parallel ports as well as
serial ports. Any computer store should carry them. I ordered mine from
Micro Warehouse at 1-800-367-6808.

This is the only really workable solution that I have seen to the need
for additional serial ports on today's crowded systems. The price is a
little steep, but other approaches are equally costly and do not resolve
the IRQ situation.
