I think you highlight two problems:

If the communications between the Pegasus and computer is NOT identical to
the OMNI V or VI (and maybe some other rigs), current contest programs will
not work e.g. CT (never has supported even the V).

The other problem focuses on the concepts of device ownership and real
operating system compliant drivers.  If you run a contest program which has
to talk to the rig AND the software that makes the rig work and both talk to
the same serial port......

Can't just have two programs butting heads.
