The dial accuracy on the Delta 580 is somewhat lacking because of the way
the frequency is counted.  If memory serves, the counter does NOT count the
band crystal.  That means the display can be off by different amounts on
different bands.  The only way to fix that is to put padders on the crystals
to bring them to the precise frequency they should be on.  I do not believe
that those padders (trimmers or whatever) are in the rig as it was
manufactured.

About the dial, there is supposed to be a pair of felt washers behind the
tuning knob - between it and the dial skirt.  If they are worn, you can take
them off and turn them back to back to put fresh sides on the outside
(touching the skirt and the knob).  The procedure is to loosen the setscrew
on the knob and while pushing it toward the rig, tighten the setscrew.  This
will give you the friction you want.  I would assume the tuning gets a bit
tighter in cold weather because the grease in the mechanism gets more
viscous - normal.

The fact that the audio goes away when you select the narrow filter could be
several things.  I don't recall if the audio filters switch with the crystal
filters or not.  Perhaps your filter has come loose from its socket -
perhaps it is bad.  Perhaps the IF frequency crystals are not set properly.
You are on your own with that one.
