Hello Everyone,
Back in January the receiver in my Omni VI (with factory installed Option 3
upgrades) suddenly went dead while I was on the air. I didn't have time to
investigate at the time and just closed down. It is just recently that I
have begun to look into this (it is an understatement to say that I am not
very active - it's been a busy year!). The rig is perhaps three years old
but I have hardly used it at all.
A couple of weeks ago I turned the rig on for the first time since January
and began looking it over. The receiver was still dead (xmtr was and is
okay) but I did a couple of master resets and twirled a few knobs and
something brought it back to life for a short time. I thought the problem
was solved but after a few minutes it went dead again.
Today I spent a while looking it over and reading through the manual to see
what I could find. There is normal-sounding static and a few faint birdies
but no signals at all. I read through the troubleshooting section in the
manual but it only lists real obvious things. I did a couple more master
resets. I took off the top and bottom and checked the readily accessable
connectors and visually inspected the boards. Nothing seems amiss. (I have
not tried to access the boards that are hidden in the center section of the
rig - that looks like it would take some time) The fact that the receiver
came back to life once suggests a loose connection somewhere, but I have
found none so far.
Have any of you Omni experts out there ever seen anything like this? Anyone
have any suggestions before I call TenTec service department next week?
Thanks in advance for your help.
