Gene, some RF could be getting into the computer and causing the problem =

you described. A good ground always helps. At 14MHz 17.5 feet of wire is =
an=20
open circuit. Wires much shorter are inductors and not grounds. You =
could get=20
one of those artificial ground tuners if the ground is a problem.
I am lucky, my station ground is a piece of metal 3 feet by 6 feet under =
my=20
equipment connected buy a 3 foot wire to a metal wall which is part of =
my=20
metal house. I tied the metal wall to a copper water pipe that runs =
under=20
my house.
Even with a low Q tuner like the 238, high VSWR can cause resonance
out of band that the finals do not like to see. What is the VSWR with =
the tuner
switched out? If it is very high then you are looking for trouble. If =
you could=20
drive the open wire line direct from the tuner or put a 2:1 balun in =
between the
coax and the open wire line, it would be better.
Best regards, Jim FitzSimons W7ANF

Subject: [TenTec] Pegasus 20 meter power

=20
Anyone Have any Ideas?
=20
I have a Pegasus 550, Power supply 961, and a Brand new off the line =
Model 238 Tuner. I have tied a ground bus from the power supply to the =
transceiver and to the tuner, which is run through the wall to the tower =
ground. I also tied the bus to the AC ground.
With the tuner I can tune to full power (100 watts) with a 1/1 vswr on =
80m, 40m, 15m, & 10m,  I'm using a G5RV Antenna with a co-ax transition =
to ladder cable up the tower to the inverted V antenna.
=20
Now on 20 meters with a 1/1 VSWR as I increase power, still with a good =
match 1/1, I come to point of 60 watts and suddenly the power drops to =
40-45 watts the Frequency read out goes from red to white, ( not =
transmitting ) and the Pegasus pumps up & down and when I try to hit =
tune it will not active until I drag the power to about 35 Watts or turn =
OFF the power to the Pegasus. Vswr still reading 1/1.=20
=20
The only thing now I can think of that the ACL tone is adjust too high =
on 20 meters.
