I have heard my own OMNI VI and it does not sound like W1AW.  Some don't
hear anything disturbing about W1AW.  I can cruise the band and pick out
the signals that sound like W1AW and they turn out to be OMNI VI's with
100 per cent accuracy....so my ears are picking it out.  

All that said, I have a CW friend who says he likes the OMNI VI
(microchirp sound on one sideband and the pseudo click on the other
sideband) because it helps him to copy when the signal is weak.  This is
an interesting hypothesis to test, is a weak signal CW note easier to pick
out from the noise if it moves a tiny bit or has a little click, just a
little?  Any other opinions on this?  I will set out to listen to weak
signals to see if my ears can distinguish with the OMNI VI sound.

Some guys use the diversity reception possible on their Yaesu FT-1000's to
slightly off tune CW stations and put one receiver in one ear of the
headphones, one receiver (slightly different note) in the other ear and
they claim better signal to noise.  I have experienced this and I believe
it works.  Is this a variation?

Any CW neuropsychological specialists out there?
