[TenTec] Comparisons to the Elecraft K2

I have a K2 which I run alongside an Omni-V. They are very different
animals. The K2 is a full-featured, low powered (nominally only 10w)
radio with extremely good performance; SSB is an add-on option. You
have to build the whole thing yourself, which is not easy for everyone,
although there are volunteer builders around to help out if you cannot
manage the delicate soldering required. (The web page has more info on
this).

The power difference may well be quite significant (a) in poor
conditions (b) if you are forced to use minimal antennas (c) in a DX
pile-up. The K2 hears everything the Omni does; its skirt selectivity
is not as good, but it is probably at least as good as the Scout. The
latter does generate more power, enough to drive many amplifiers.

The Pegasus is different again; its definitely not a conventional radio
and according to QST, its RX performance falls into the "average"
category. If you must have superior receiver performance, the Pegasus
may not be the best option. Inevitably there is the cost factor. The K2
and the Scout are very considerably cheaper than the Omni-VI.

So it all depends what you are particularly interested in doing.

Personally, I'd be extremely happy with just the K2, if it had up to 50
watts out, and I could drive my 500w linear with it. As it is, I think
the K2 is great, but so is my old Omni-V. The K2 wins on its QSK
(break-in) performance though (no noisy relays and no thumping in the
phones/speaker). The Omni wins when I need the extra power to bust a
pile-up, especially on the LF bands.
