In case anyone is in the same boat that I was -- I got back on the
air last November after being off for 17 years. Being a Ten-Tec
fan from the days of the Triton IV, I bought an Omni VI Plus with
the idea that I would soon add a linear. I was torn between
rejuvenating my 30 year old SB-220, buying a Titan II or a
Hercules II.

Fixing up the old SB-220 was certainly the cheapest solution but
no WARC bands and no QSK and I had no way to be sure just how much
fixing it would need. So, I ruled that out. After much agonizing,
I finally decided that the solid state, "no tune", Hercules II was
worth more to me than the extra watts of the Titan II. I have had
the Herc on the air for about a month now and I am pleased as
punch. It seems to put out a great signal, I doubt if the Titan
would do much better and to change bands I push one button on the
Omni and throw an antenna switch. Presto chango, ready to go -
just beautiful!

Now if I could only figure a way to auto control the antenna
switch :-)
