Well fellas I purchased a spankin new Pegasus, it arrived on 9-6-00
Wow the 1st new radio I have purchased since becomming a HAM
I was very happy to say the least, opening the package and reading the brief
manual, ID'ing all the parts and installing the software onto my PC ... all
the preliminaries outta the way I followed the instructions and started up
the program and pegasus, I smiled as the pegasus was reconized but something
was wrong, the Pegasus was deaf, Hmmmm , a quick re-check confirmed all was
right with the PC, so I switched in my old backup radio to test all the
system, signals were plentiful, just NOT on the PEG. I replugged everything
back in re-checked all connections and software, fired up the program and
the PEG, nope still DEAF as a Dummy load.
Well I opened up the case of the PEG, i am a bit curious, ahhhh I spied a
few loose connectors on the board, we'll they appeared loose to me, so I
re-seated all plugs and put the case back on and tried again, I was rewarded
with signals aplenty.
not the end of the story yet! I played a few hours with it, tuning the
bands and testing the new rig, wow was it impressive .. the same thing the
following nite a few trial sojurns on PSK31 and SSTV, man i like this rig,
but alas the tail falls off the following morning.
i woke early so I could work some DX, my favorite fun, I turned on the PC,
started the program, and fired up the PEGASUS, I seem to have developed a
wary eye for things going wrong .. Well I wasnt to be very happy this
morning, I tuned up on 20 meters, low pwr as always, then I increased my
power to about 90 - 100 watts, or so I thought, barely 10 watts output! a
fast recheck of everything, ant tuner, everything, even the pwr supply, nope
just a bare 10 watts was all that would come from the PEG .... a call to
TEN*TEC produced what I was fearing, there is a problem with the finals most
likely, the Tech and I went through all the same tests, and re - installed
and tested the software, final option, after 3 days of owning a PEGASUS ....
send it back for repairs, not very impressive.
I querried about this problem back about Jan of this year, got both positive
and negative responses, but more positive then anything else, so were am i
going with this, of all the PEGASUS owners on the reflector, how many
Pegasus owners have had a simular problem, with Finals going away after just
a few days use!
Dissapointed ! yes I am
