Thanks to all who have replied with suggestions for the indicated
problem.  So far,  the simple check above seems to have helped
loads!  So,  I won't go into the "freezing" of solder joints just yet.
If simply pushing that switch back and forth a few times has
helped,  maybe that was the source of the problem.  Will see.
