Clark:  If the batteries are five years old, it may help to replace the electrolyte with fresh.  You can obtain this from an auto parts store for very cheap.  Be careful and do not spill it.  Also, I suggest to put the batteries on a slow trickle charge for several days.  If the batteries sat for five years without charging they may be permantly damaged. - Corn- k4own.
