I find it very annoying as well. They should be independent of each other.

Also I find the accessory jack on the back of the set a poor design since
sound card dsp has become so prevalent. I wish that Tentec had put auliary
sound inputs and outputs as RCA jack or preferably miniphone jack so that
shielded cords could be jacked directly into sound card line in/out. Also
the PTT accessory jack should be a DB9 or DB25 serial port so that standard
serial cables could be used. The levels should be proper for sound card and
serial port use.
