You can make a linear pot very nearly logarithmic by loading it with a
resistor. Connect a resistor with value between 1/2 and 1 times the
resistance of the pot from common to wiper. The lower value will make it
more logarithmic. That resistor also will move the working area away
from a worn place on an old pot.

Cramolin makes a product especially for pots that is less destructive to
the pot than their Deoxit product for switch contacts.
