A BNC male will plug into a 50 ohm N female with a good fit, if you 
remove the bayonet from the BNC. The 50 ohm N will plug into a 
BNC female with no changes.

All of the internal dimensions are very similar between BNC and 50-
ohm N connectors.

A 75 ohm N has a smaller pin, and can not interchange with BNC's 
or 50 ohm N connectors.

None of the BNC or N connectors I have tested ever approach the 
power handling of a good UHF connector. Since UHF connectors, 
BNC connectors, and N connectors are virtually lossless below 250 
MHz, and since UHF connectors are much more forgiving of 
operation with high SWR even at high power, I use mostly UHF 
connectors in my own equipment.

For low power at modest SWR, almost any connector will work.
