The  rig has a Menu 1 user keypad option to dim the meter and display
lamps from 0-15.  Refer to Table 3-1 of manual.  The factory default
setting is 15, the absolute brightest.   I find postion 4 is plenty
sufficient.   Reducing the driving voltage to the lamp and display should
increase their life considerably.   Much easier than having to change
them out or add series resistor.
