[TenTec] Help Titan amp and relay

Probably because I usually exceed the full QSK rating of the Titan most of
the time, I have changed the vacuum relay in mine numerous times. I am
assuming your talking about the vacuum relay when you say the 'main' relay?
The original vacuum relay would last me about a year and then produce
similar symptom's that you describe. I finally found some used Jennings RB1
relays that were pulls from military equipment. I installed the Jennings
relay about three years ago and it has not broken yet. The diameter of the
Jennings is slightly larger than the Kilovac, so you have to use some ham
'ingenuity' to get it to fit in the bracket. But it is electrically
equivalent. The used Jennings relays cost about $25 each. You can find them
advertised on eBay (search vacuum relays) quite often. I think the new price
for replacement relays are around $125.

Subject: [TenTec] Help Titan amp and relay

My Titan is acting up. After about 1/2 hour of qsk cw I hear the relay but
have no output( do have plate current). Talked to Tentec and they think it
might be the main realy whichis expensive. Believe they switched to a
different type of relay(kilovac?) that is more heavy duty. Did anyone ever
change the relay in their Titan or experience the problem I'm having?
