When you say "raised sine" function, you mean sine squared. That's
always 0 or positive, and so has no zero crossings at has a smooth
transition from constant value 0 to constant value 1.0000 through a
phase angle from 0 to 90 degrees. Though that's just a geometric
construction, there's no RF or audio phase angles involved. You can
change the rates of changes and the places of the curves by using higher
power than squared.
