Joe,

The speech processor in the Jupiter /Pegasus is a full DSP
implementation.  It basically adds more gain to the lower
amplitude part of the speech than the higher amplitude part.
I believe this type of processing can give the best increase
in average speech power with the least amount of 
distortion of any method yet devised.
