Ron,

The 160 band has a very high atmospheric noise level.  It is not a good band
to test receiver sensitivity.  Compare weak signals on the FT990 and
Omni VI before you decide that the Omni VI front end is fine.  My guess
is you will find the Omni VI is not doing well on 10 meters.  If this
is true, it would indicate it is very likely the front end amplifier
took a hit from the 990.
