I am glad to see that Carl has straightened all this out concerning the start time for the net. I have seen all the posts that say it starts at 1800 eastern. I guess this would be fine if you were talking about military time but I think the question was Zulu time. It is apparent that a lot of people don't know the difference or they just don't know how to do the conversion.
When I was first licensed as tech plus in 1996, naturally I spent a lot of time making contacts on 10 meters. One of the first things I did was to make the required 10 contacts and became a member of 10-10 international net. One of the most valuable things I got from them besides the experience and lots of great contacts was on the rear cover of the 10-10 handbook. It is a real simple time conversion chart which shows UTC in relation to standard and daylight savings times in all 4 US time zones. It still hangs from a shelf in front of my operating position as a quick reference. I would be happy to copy and share with anyone who is interested. I seriously doubt if 10-10 would mind!
But seriously, my biggest concern is not with what time the net starts, but the fact that a lot of people probably can't hear the net because of adjacent channel interference from the station that is using 14.268 at the same time as the net every Sunday ( or Monday according to Zulu! ). I tuned in to the normal net frequency today a couple hours in advance and monitored on and off throughout the afternoon and the guy was there on .268 the entire time. I have not checked in to the net for several weeks or months I don't remember because I don't want to have to hear all the bleedover on top of the net. I can still hear most of the net stations and could probably check in with no problem, but I just don't want to listen to all the associated noise week in and week out.
My favorite thing about the TenTec users net besides checking in is listening in and hearing all the nice comments and hearing all the quality TenTec audio from all the TT enthusiasts. But if another station is running legal limit +++? on the adjacent frequency it takes a lot of the enjoyment away from the net. Has anyone considered moving the net to another frequency or maybe even another band? This is just my humble opinion and maybe I am the only one having this problem, but I seriously doubt it. Maybe if I had a Jupiter....
