My thanks to W0DC, K0IDT, KE4TEG, NW4P AND K4DPK for the replies I got to
my post about my Paragon. There may be more but I have been playing Field
Day this weekend and the above are the only ones I have had time to
download. If you worked KS0B during FD, you worked our club station. Here is
a common reply to all of them.
1: I am using AFSK to run RTTY. I will give FSK a try soon. No one has
suggested this before and I never thought to try it. I will need to get out
the manual and figure out how to make the cable connections. Connections on
back of rig are- pwr cable, ground, PTT, Audio In, Audio Out, Key. I am
using a KAM PLUS, v8.0, and these are required. All connecting cables are
shielded.
2: I have never had to use a fan with this rig. I will try it with the
covers off, but I doubt it will make a difference. When you have run it in
the CW mode key down for 10 minutes at 50 watts and it doesn't shut down, I
think that says a lot.
3: I powered this rig for 9 years using a deep cycle battery attached to a
charger. Ten Tec says it will not work that way, but it did .For the past 2
1/2 years I have used a MFJ 4245MV switching power supply. I have used 3
other power supplies, including an Astron 35 amp, in my trials, without any
change in the results.
4: Locks up on all bands.
5: Ground system. Heavy bare copper wire across back of desk ( I think it
is #10 wire) - run to my crawl space under house to two 4 ft. copper rods
connected about 10 ft. apart. The run to the first rod is about 20 ft. I
just added the 2nd rod about 2 months ago after the problem started. All
equipment is connected to the common ground wire with braded copper I took
out of old coax. I am wondering that, if it is a ground loop, would an
interface, such as RigBlaster, help?
6: As this rig is 12 years old, it just might be I have a cold soldier
joint. But, the Ten Tec boys didn't find anything wrong. It was completely
resoldiered by Ten Tec about 7 years ago.
Thanks again......Dick - KS0M
