Actually the K2 uses known good technology to achieve very good results.
Complexity is not necessarily a sign of good technology, more a sign of
technology for technology's sake. The other makers KNOW about that
technology but prefer to stumble on their own way producing radios that
don't perform as well as they might if they had used better technology.
Its very hard to beat a 2N5109 with feedback for an HF receiver RF
stage, though the multiple transistor grounded gate JFET in the Omni V
and VI seems to perform well. And its very hard to beat a double
balanced diode ring mixer with proper terminations, though many rice
boxes have neglected the proper terminations or decent preselection
tuning and sell us radios that hear poorer and have poorer dynamic range
than tube type radios at VHF. That's not progress.
