[TenTec] Omni V vs. Headphones

In review of the documentation for the Paragon and the Omni VI+ it does
appear that the same signal that drives the speaker also drives the phones.
The manual states that "Headphones with an impedance of 4 to 16 ohms are
recommended".

I'd suspect that with the low Z phones a good transfer of power takes place
thus one would tend to "hear more" of the audio.  With high Z phones the
output stage acts as a voltage source.  Depending on amplifier feedback
characteristics a wide variation in frequency response can be expected.

I have 2 or 3 sets of phones here that I've used from time to time.  Some
sound like crap when used on the Omni while others sound quite nice.  My
overall personal preference is a pair of Sony MDR-V900's.  They are
comfortable, I can wear them for hours without hearing fatigue and they
sound great regardless of the program source, CW, SSB or AM in the case of
the Paragon.
