[TenTec] PTO rebuild

I believe that to properly clean the PTO parts of grease, the PTO must
be disassembled. I used rubbing alcohol the first time, then found
that Dawn dishwashing liquid worked well. Cleaning down in the
threaded pistol was best done with a Q-Tip dipped in the cleaner.

For grease, I used a bicycle grease made by Phil Woods (I think is the
name). A local bicycle shop filled up a 35 mm film container for me
free. Others may have other ideas about grease.

You are on the right track!

Subject: [TenTec] PTO rebuild

| Well, I bought a Corsair at a local hamfest 2 weeks ago and was told
that
| the receiver worked fine, but there wasn't any RF output. Not a
problem, I
| have already found the that Q1 a 2N3866 on the low level driver
board is
| toast! Anyway, since I already have it kinda apart, I thought I
would go
| ahead and at least clean the PTO and put some fresh grease on the
workin's.
|
| I don't think there are any worn parts, not that I can tell from the
feel
| and tuning the PTO anyway. The question is, what would the best
cleaner or
| way to clean the old grease from inside the PTO? Then, what would
some of
| you suggest for the new grease? It would be helpful if it would be
| something that I could get off the shelf. Say, like a good bycicle
lube or
| whatever.
|
| I have never had a PTO apart but it wasn't all that tricky to do. I
just
| want to use the type of material that others have tried and had
success
| with. I would really like to do this just ONCE.... so, I think that
I will
| ask the questions and AVOID my normal trial and error method! Hows
come
| they call it the TRIAL and ERROR method, whenever I use this method
it
| usually turns out to be ERROR!
|
| Thanks in advance.
