Yes, use a good contact cleaner on the bandswitch contacts.  The guys lately
have been using Deoxit.  If you properly care for the 544, it will outlive
you even if you're a kid.  But if it were mine, I'd send it off to Garland
at Ten-Tec and have him make it as new.

Your readout shifting may be because your Offset is turned on?  Some rigs
have an internal pot that balances the offset when it is turned off.  I had
an Astro 102 rig once with a dirty internal pot.  It was not stable until I
cleaned that pot.
