It most likely has to do with the trade-off between cost and processor speed, as
well as the 24 bit A/D limitation.  When these technologies become more
affordable to the commercial world, things should improve. DSP IF stages in
amateur rigs are still in their infancy.

I must agree with Tom. Those DSP-only reveivers tend to emphasize key clicks
for some reason. This has been mentioned in QST reviews of at least one
radio.
